Leeds alumnus and donor, , was recently recognized as a by the . Rustandy is part of 33 business school graduates in this class of leaders, representing 33 AACSB-accredited schools across 13 countries. Each honoree was nominated by their alma maters as shining examples of how their business education prepared them to create meaningful, long-lasting impact in their industries, communities and across the globe. They are being formally recognized in Vancouver at the AACSB Deans Conference this month.听听

Rustandy is the founder and CEO of PT Arwana Citramulia Tbk, one of the most successful businesses in Indonesia and one of the best-performing ceramic tile manufacturing companies in the world. He disrupts business norms in Indonesia by ensuring his company positively impacts the lives of his employees and the surrounding community.听

鈥淭andean is a great example of how business can also create social value,鈥 says Dr. Sharon Matusik, Dean of the Leeds School. 鈥淗e always sites his factories in areas where they need jobs and development. He鈥檒l do things like pay benefits when none of his competitors pay benefits; which then encourages other companies to do the same, if they also want good workers. Similarly, he鈥檒l provide education benefits, training, things that deliberately promote economic prosperity. He is very thoughtful about how he runs his operation.鈥澨

Rustandy had a transformational experience while attending Leeds. In an interview last year, he described his education as a foundation for his values of loyalty and pride that still inspire him today.听

鈥淸Leeds] not only taught me entrepreneurial thinking, but more importantly, it taught me that you can create something from nothing, and that 鈥渟omething鈥 should have value,鈥 said Rustandy. 鈥淰alue is the light you create, the way you give back. A lot of entrepreneurs can create something, but that doesn鈥檛 mean it has value.鈥澨
