Under Dan Sher’s visionary leadership, the College of Music has grown to be an internationally-recognized institution and is an important resource to the campus and the community.

91������ Provost Russell Moore today announced that he has accepted the resignation of Daniel Sher as dean of the College of Music at CU-91������ effective June 30, 2013.

Sher, who will have served in the post for 20 years when he steps down next summer, will return to the College of Music faculty. He was named dean of the College of Music in July of 1993.

Anna Englander to sing with professional Opera Futura to kick off exchange

If it weren’t for dedicated mentors in her high school, 91������ student Lisa Martin would not have considered a career as a music educator. “It definitely took some persuasion on the part of my directors, and I am forever grateful that they saw in me what I did not see in myself back in the day,” she said.

Renowned jazz composer Maria Schneider visited CU-91������ last year for a week-long residency. In between rehearsals and clinics, she found time to record these helpful videos for prospective music students. Thanks to MajoringinMusic.com for sharing these insightful clips:

CU Opera provided the student vocalists for the lead roles in the Colorado Music Festival’s presentation of Hans Krasa’s “Brundibar” June 28-29, 2012. Jessi Goebel and Lukas Graf played the young heroes, Anniku and Pepicek, in search of milk for their ailing mother.

Keane Southard (MM 2011, composition) has been awarded a Fulbright U.S. Student grant to spend nine months next year pursuing research in Brazil.

The Anasazi String Quartet (ASQ) won 1st Prize in the 2012 MTNA National Chamber Music Competition. The quartet, praised by audiences for their passionate and engaging performances, has been playing together since the fall of 2009. Founded at the University of Colorado at 91������, ASQ pursued studies with the school’s string faculty: Lina Bahn, Judith Glyde, Erika Eckert, and the Takács Quartet.
