  •  Faculty members recognized with the Marinus Smith Award
    On Friday, April 1, 20 staff and faculty members were recognized with the Marinus Smith Award during a reception hosted by New Student & Family Programs and CU Parents Association (CUPA). </span>The Marinus Smith Recognition Awards are presented each spring to select CU-91¸£ÀûÉç teachers, advisors and staff who made a significant, positive impact on the lives of CU-91¸£ÀûÉç students.

    Last week, while students were away on spring break, CU-91¸£ÀûÉç Campus Dining Services chefs were hard at work learning how to create new plant-focused vegan and vegetarian food options that could be delicious for eaters of all appetites.

    <p>Two School of Education faculty members—Ben Kirshner, director of <a href="http://www.colorado.edu/cuengage/">CU Engage</a>, and Kevin Welner, director of the <a href="http://nepc.colorado.edu/">National Education Policy Center</a>—are headed to Washington D.C., to participate in a national education conference at the White House on March 17. The conference is part of First Lady Michelle Obama's initiative, <a href="https://www.whitehouse.gov/reach-higher">Reach Higher</a>.</p>

    <p><span>At its regular meeting on Thursday and Friday at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs, the University of Colorado Board of Regents heard tuition proposals for the 2016-17 academic year, approved changes to CU-91¸£ÀûÉç academic programs, approved new contracts for CU-91¸£ÀûÉç head coaches and more.</span></p>

  • <p>The CU-91¸£ÀûÉç is ranked No. 5 in the nation – up one spot from last year – for graduates serving as Peace Corps volunteers with 53 alumni currently serving around the world, the Peace Corps announced Feb. 18.</p>
  • <p>Francis Beckwith will serve as the Visiting Scholar in Conservative Thought and Policy for the 2016-17 academic year. He is the fourth person to hold the position.</p>
    <p>Beckwith earned a PhD in philosophy from Fordham University and a master of juridical studies from the Washington University School of Law in St. Louis. Beckwith, professor of philosophy and church-state studies at Baylor University in Texas, will succeed Brian Domitrovic, whose appointment ends this academic year.</p>

    <p>Mark Meaney has been elected chair of the new North America chapter of the United Nations Principles for Responsible Management Education intiative. The organization works to inspire and champion responsible business management education, research and leadership globally.</p>
